Technomad Expands Dealer Network in Europe

BOSTON, January 19, 2010 – Technomad LLC, a leader in weatherproof loudspeakers and Turnkey PA systems for the commercial pro audio market since 1995, welcomes three new companies to its dealer network in Europe and the United Kingdom.  POGO Geluid of the Netherlands, Lynden Micros Ltd. of England and Prosound Munster of Ireland are the latest dealer representatives to join the growing network.

The dealer network expansion follows a year of steady business growth in Europe following the company’s announcement that it would begin stocking equipment in the Netherlands.  The overseas warehouse has enabled faster delivery and reduced shipping costs to Technomad customers across the continent.

John Futter, Managing Director of Lynden Micros Ltd, said that Technomad’s range of weatherproof loudspeakers has proven popular for custom projects where quality of sound and durability are key requirements.  He points to recent projects at the Worcester Rugby Club in Wales, home of the Worcester Warriors; and the Blackgang Chine Amusement Park on the Isle of Wight as examples.

“The quality and long-range durability of these products have convinced some of our customers who have purchased cheaper products in the past to come back to us and replace them with Technomad,” said Futter.  “Having stock available in Europe makes for a far more attractive price point for new and existing Technomad customers as we eliminate the duty and shipping costs.”

Leontine van der Poel, Managing Director of POGO Geluid, added that Technomad products offer a unique design in Europe compared to other loudspeaker and PA products.  She cites a recent Technomad installation by her company at Feyenoord, a major league football (soccer) club in the Rotterdam area, as an ideal example of the professional audio niche that Technomad fills in her region.

“We installed Technomad Noho loudspeakers and PowerChiton amplifiers at the facility, both of which are weatherproof products that give Feyenoord a durable outdoor PA system for its training and playing field for amateur and youth teams,” said Van der Poel.  “We found the products to be very thorough, easy to handle and easy to install.  The European warehouse also seems to be a well-thought out strategy.”

All Technomad products are completely RoHS-compliant, and the company employs a green design process that includes the use of 100% recycled plastic in its manufacturing process.  Technomad continues to manufacture its products at its U.S. factory in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, including its complete range of IP56-rated weatherproof loudspeakers; its PowerChiton range of networkable weatherproof outdoor amplifier modules; and its Schedulon mp3 player and recorder.

Technomad also offers its Online Quote and Order System to dealers globally, which brings the conveniences of online purchasing, parts replacement, quote generation and other benefits to its network of authorized dealers and resellers.

Technomad Turnkey PA System Powers Outdoor Sports Audio for Hatboro-Horsham High School

Technomad LLC, a leader in weatherproof loudspeakers and audio systems since 1995, announces that Hatboro-Horsham High School in the Philadelphia suburbs is now using a Technomad Turnkey PA System to enhance audio quality and coverage for sporting events in its outdoor campus stadium.  The high school successfully used the system for its Fall 2009 football season and will use this system this spring for track and field events, as well as other outdoor sports and events.

“The clarity and functionality of the system from voice to music is amazing,” said Louis James, Athletic Director at Hatboro-Horsham High School.  “The system is used for all our home stadium athletic events along with band competitions.  The system as a whole is much better than I could have expected for high school events.”

The Technomad system, featuring two Technomad Noho weatherproof loudspeakers and a turnkey signal processing rack, replaced a pair of aging public address horns plagues by unintelligible voice reproduction and low-fidelity musical output.  According to Joe Torquato, Owner and President of systems integration firm Omega Electronics, Hatboro-Horsham was looking to install something with the fidelity and response of a home audio system.

“The days of using the plain old football field horns with a simple driver and limited frequency response are over,” said Torquato.  “Students and their parents are used to the quality their mp3 players, iPods and CD players deliver and expect the same quality from pre-show and halftime music.  The new system allows for easy hookup of these devices.  The Nohos provide plenty of high end; they also reproduce lows and mids very well, which is critical to high-quality musical output.  The amount of power they put out covers the entire field.  And the clarity of the voice is excellent.  It is a very smooth sounding loudspeaker with no dropouts.”

Torquato and his team set up the system in under four hours, installing the Nohos on the press box façade following masonry work to smooth the textured brick surface for the mounts.  The IP56-rated weatherproof design of the loudspeakers mean that they will remain outside and unprotected from the elements year-round.

“The 120×120 conical pattern of the Noho means that installers don’t have to fuss with the angles in the way that a 60×40 angle cabinet would require,” added Torqauto.  “Off-axis, it has a very wide, smooth response that allows two loudspeakers to cover the entire field, just as it does on-axis.  That flexibility, along with the weatherproof design, is a big reason why I especially like the Noho for high school football and soccer fields.  Following the installation, the athletic director walked the entire field around the track and was amazed at the sound quality and coverage.”

The Nohos are wired to a rolling signal processing rack inside the press box. The Technomad Turnkey PA system rack comes complete with a pre-wired amplifier and a six-channel mixer with front-panel iPod/mp3 inputs, as well as a hard-wired microphone.

“One thing that has always impressed me about the Technomad Turnkey PA systems is that I never have to add EQ to the rack,” said Torqauto.  “I’ve never had any feedback issues or EQ problems with Technomad loudspeakers, especially with the upper low and lower mid.  That’s impressive when the loudspeakers are mounted directly to the face of the press box with open windows and a flat, low-end radiating surface, and PA announcements aren’t affected at all.”

Technomad Plans ISE Show Debut

Steady international growth spurs first appearance at Europe’s leading AV event

BOSTON, January 11, 2010 – Technomad LLC, a leader in weatherproof loudspeakers and audio systems since 1995, will exhibit for the first time at this year’s ISE show in Amsterdam (Booth #3C138), taking place February 2-4 at the RAI Exhibition Center.

“While Technomad has always had a global presence, we have seen a significant rise in interest for our products across Europe following our decision to stock equipment in the Netherlands,” said Rodger von Kries, vice president of Technomad. “ISE offers an excellent opportunity to introduce our unique weatherproof loudspeaker range and other professional audio and communication products to new audiences.”

Technomad is most well known for its versatile loudspeaker range that offers outstanding voice clarity and musical quality, along with broad dispersion, long throw and unmatched durability in both indoor and outdoor environments. In 2009, the company also introduced a range of narrow dispersion loudspeakers with 90×40 and 60×40 under its popular Berlin brand – the largest loudspeaker in the Technomad family.

Technomad will exhibit several of their loudspeakers for the first time at ISE, along with recently introduced game-changing products for the general AV, systems integration, education and commercial security markets:

• The Schedulon, an automatic mp3 player and recording system based on the company’s successful and durable military technology
PowerChiton, a range of compact, durable and weatherproof NEMA power amplifier modules that gives design engineers, contractors and consultants more flexible options for challenging, distributed outdoor audio system installations

The Schedulon™ is ideal for use in themed entertainment, high-quality music playback, simulated environments, sports, schools and universities, and commercial security applications. The Schedulon provides instant, manual playback of up to 99 knob-assigned, user-loaded audio files from a front-panel screen, and allows automatic playback on a user-defined schedule based on an internal clock or synchronized network time server.

Introduced in mid-2008, new features include an internal power backup option that provides 20 minutes of battery-powered redundancy in the event of power loss. The battery keeps all scheduled playback events on target for approximately 75 minutes. The Schedulon immediately ‘wakes up’ at the current time to resume playback of all scheduled content after battery power expires and the unit is restarted.

PowerChiton modules unite a high-performance, passively-cooled amplifier with an IP66 rated, low-profile enclosure. Available in three sizes (130, 250 and 500 Watts), all PowerChiton modules come with standard mounting feet; optional accessories include pole mount adaptors and specialized hardware to install the modules on the back of Technomad loudspeakers.

New upgrades include IP and RF networking options, an internal mixer and additional input options. Technomad has also added two standard inputs to all three power levels of PowerChiton modules: a high-quality line level input for improved site-wide audio that is ideal for both voice (paging) and musical output; and a second input that can be used for local audio or as a secondary audio source. The internal mixer adds balance to improve and maintain audio levels out of the amplifier modules en route to loudspeakers.

Technomad Celebrates 10 Years at DevonWood

Technomad reports that DevonWood Equestrian Centre, among the premier horse show facilities in the United States, has reached 10-years of trouble-free, continuous outdoor event audio with Technomad loudspeakers.

With one indoor and three outdoor competition rings, four warm-up rings, a boarding stable and several commons areas, the specialised, international-level equestrian sports facility continues to expand its zoned audio system with Technomad at the core. The privately-owned, 42-acre facility recently added multiple Technomad Vernal and Vienna loudspeakers in the VIP seating and other outdoor areas including a beer garden, picnic area and several lengthy walkways; and converted its zoned audio distribution system to an all-digital infrastructure.

DevonWood Equestrian Centre has used Technomad Paris loudspeakers since first opening its gates, installing four in each competition ring, three more in each warm-up ring, and eight in the 250-capacity horseshow stables. Although the Paris provides clear speech and high-quality musical reproduction over very long distances, DevonWood added two dozen Viennas and Vernals to provide unquestionably good sound to localized audiences and enable a more efficient zoned audio system.

Announcers can target specific announcements or background music to each loudspeaker zone, sub-groups or every loudspeaker in the facility. Digital audio is transmitted wirelessly to each zone where local mixers and amplifiers directly drive the loudspeakers.

According to Justin Rattner, principal at DevonWood Equestrian Centre, intense studies of outdoor loudspeakers were completed before standardising on Technomad. Rattner brought in Glenn Micallef, a well-known professional sound consultant and motion picture/television sound engineer, who recommended Technomad after considerable research.

“Most horse competition facilities use traditional metal horns, which are adequate for voice but a terrible choice for music, and top-quality music is absolutely critical for our musical freestyle events,” said Rattner. “The initial tests with Technomad were very reassuring and we were blown away by how well they covered and how crisp and clear they sounded over very large open areas. I didn’t have any expectations about service life, but ten years on everybody still raves about the sound – including the professional announcers, who rarely use systems of this quality. The outdoor Technomads are in the elements 365 days a year and are hit with blistering heat in the summer, year-round rain and occasional snow and sleet in the winter.”

“People often ask me where the sound comes from, because it seems like the audio is coming from everywhere,” said Rattner.  “It is very impressive.”
